The two template pages work together. Print the blank ring on thin card and cut along the outer and inner lines. Colour the decorations sheet — holly leaves and fir sprigs, berries, three baubles, two pinecones, two bells, a candy cane, a star and a big bow — cut each piece out along its dashed line and glue them round the ring so they overlap, with the bow at the bottom. Punch a hole through the circle on the tab at the top and hang it up with a ribbon.
Advent wreaths
An advent wreath has four candles, and one more is lit on each of the four Sundays before Christmas. The advent wreath page has four candles standing in a ring of holly and fir, each tied with its own decoration — a star, a heart, a dove and a bell — so the page can be coloured a candle at a time through December. A second page shows a family lighting the candles together, with a boy watching, hands folded, from a chair beside the table.
Wreaths for younger children
The simple wreath is built from big rounded leaves with five baubles and a bow, and the kawaii wreath has a smiling face and two mittened hands. A penguin in a bobble hat peeks through a wreath hung with bells, and there is a wreath on a front door beside a potted tree and a lantern. In the middle pages a boy climbs a step stool to hang the wreath while his sister holds the ribbon, an owl, a rabbit, a squirrel and a mouse sit on a wreath of pinecones, and one wreath is made entirely of gingerbread men, star cookies and sweets.
Wreaths for older colourists
The Victorian wreath is lavish: magnolia and holly leaves, dried orange slices, bundles of cinnamon sticks, poinsettias and a lace-edged bow. The Nordic wreath is braided straw hung with straw stars, hearts and a little straw goat, the Scandinavian Yule goat. Two cardinals perch on a fir wreath with a plaid bow, the zentangle wreath has a different pattern in every leaf and bauble, the mandala rings an open centre with holly, poinsettias, bells and pinecones, and MERRY CHRISTMAS is lettered inside a wreath of fir and poinsettias.
A set for the whole family
The five easy pages have thick outlines and big open shapes for a young child. The nine middle pages — the templates, the advent wreaths, the doorstep, the cookie wreath, the woodland animals, the lantern and the lettering — will hold a school-age child for half an hour. The six detailed pages will take an adult most of an evening.
Print the whole set at once
The button at the top of this page bundles all twenty into a single download, so you can print the lot for a class or a church group rather than picking through them one at a time. Every page comes as a PDF in both US Letter and A4.
What to colour them with
Crayons and markers suit the easy pages and the templates — if you are making the paper wreath, felt tips on card give the strongest colour. The Victorian, zentangle and mandala wreaths are better with coloured pencils, which keep the small shapes crisp.
