Download PDF A4 PNGStripes you colour yourself
Most candy cane pages arrive with the stripes already printed in black, which leaves a child colouring the gaps between someone else’s decisions. Every cane in this set is drawn as an open outline instead. The stripes are there as shapes, and which ones get filled — and in what colour — is up to whoever is holding the pencil.
Candy cane templates to decorate
The template page has six candy canes in three sizes, each completely plain inside with a dashed line around it for cutting out. Draw on stripes, dots or zigzags, colour them in, and hang them on the tree or string them into a garland.
The story of the shepherd’s crook
An old story says the candy cane is shaped like a shepherd’s crook. One page tells it: a shepherd boy on a hill at night holding a striped crook, with three lambs at his feet and one great star shining above the little town below — a good page for a church group or a nativity lesson.
A set that covers the whole family
The five easy pages have outlines thick enough for a fat crayon and very little to go wrong. The nine middle pages — among them the jar, the wreath, the sleigh, the polar bears and the hot cocoa — have enough going on to hold a school-age child for half an hour. The six detailed pages — the patterned canes, the mandala, the sweet shop, the candy cane forest, the snow globe and the peppermint pattern — will take an adult most of an evening.
Print the whole set at once
The button at the top of this page bundles all twenty into a single download, so you can print the lot the night before rather than picking through them one at a time. Every page comes as a PDF in both US Letter and A4.
What to colour them with
The large easy pages take crayon and marker well. The patterned canes, the mandala and the peppermint pattern are better with pencils — marker bleeds through the narrow bands and loses the pattern underneath.

Frequently asked questions
Are these candy cane coloring pages free?
Yes — every page is a free PDF with no signup, no email and no watermark.
Why are the stripes not already coloured in?
Deliberately. A cane printed with solid black stripes leaves a child colouring the gaps. Drawing the stripes as outlines means they can be red and white, or any two colours at all.
Is there a candy cane template?
Yes. One page has six blank candy canes in three sizes, with no stripes and a dashed line around each for cutting out.
Which pages suit a young child?
The big candy cane, the smiling candy cane, the two crossed canes, the gingerbread man and the cane with holly all have thick outlines and large open areas.
Which pages suit an adult?
The patterned candy canes, the candy cane mandala, the sweet shop, the candy cane forest, the snow globe and the peppermint pattern are the long ones.
Can I print these for a classroom or a party?
Yes. Print as many copies as you need for a class, a party or a church group. Please do not resell the files or host them elsewhere.
What paper size are they?
Every page comes in both US Letter and A4, so it prints to the edge on either.
