Kindness coloring sheets for the classroom

Each scene is one simple act that is easy to talk about: sharing a big umbrella with a friend who forgot theirs, stopping to help a classmate pick up dropped books, sharing half a sandwich at lunch, offering a sweet to a friend whose kite broke, taking turns with a box of crayons, filling a bird feeder on a snowy day, carrying an elderly neighbour’s shopping, tidying litter in the park and giving a teacher a handmade thank-you card. Ask who is being kind, how the other person feels, and when you last did something like it.

World Kindness Day

World Kindness Day is on 13 November every year. It began in 1998 with the World Kindness Movement, and schools around the world use it for a week of kind acts. The World Kindness Day page shows six children holding hands around the Earth under a row of hearts.

A kindness quilt, a kindness tree and a kindness jar

Three pages are classroom projects. A kindness quilt is a favourite: every child fills a square with a picture of a kind act and the squares are joined into one big quilt — the quilt page has nine squares already drawn, from a handshake to a hug to a rainbow. On a kindness tree, a paper heart is hung on a branch for every kind thing someone does, and a kindness jar fills up with a heart each time. Kindness rocks are pebbles painted with hearts, suns and smiles and left in a park for a stranger to find.

Kindness lettering and a kindness award

BE KIND is drawn in big bubble letters in a ring of flowers and hearts, and SPREAD KINDNESS sits under a watering can pouring out hearts. The kindness award certificate has a heart rosette and a blank line: colour it, write a name on the line and give it to someone who was kind.

Easy through to detailed

The five easy pages — BE KIND, the hugging hearts, the kindness jar, the kindness rocks and the crayon-sharing friends — have thick outlines and big shapes for young children. Two detailed pages suit older children and adults: a heart-shaped mandala around two hands holding a heart, and a doodle page packed with hearts, handshakes, rainbows, gifts and cups of cocoa.
