Cupcake templates to decorate

Some of the time you do not want a finished picture — you want a cupcake shape to decorate yourself. The template sheet has six blank cupcakes, each a different shape of wrapper and frosting, each with nothing drawn on it and a dashed line around it for cutting out. The design-your-own page is one enormous empty cupcake with ten toppings lined up beside it — a cherry, a strawberry, a candle, piped icing, sprinkles, a chocolate curl, a star cookie, a sugar flower, a wafer and a little flag — so a child picks what goes on it and draws it in.

A page about feelings

Six cupcake characters each show a different feeling — happy, sad, surprised, sleepy, silly and cross — with one small clue on each frosting: a heart, a tear, a little burst of lines, a trail of bubbles, a spiral, a puff of steam. There are no words on it, so it works for children who are not reading yet, and it makes a good start to a conversation about how we feel.

Cupcakes with a story

A cupcake in a gift box of six, each one different. A tray of twelve at three stages of baking, with the bowl, the whisk and the oven gloves around it. Four cupcakes for the four seasons. And for older colourists, a cupcake castle with towers made of stacked cupcakes and a drawbridge made from a chocolate bar, and a cupcake shop with three shelves full.

Nothing is filled in black

Sprinkles are drawn as tiny outlined capsules rather than black dashes, strawberry seeds as hollow teardrops, and every nose on every animal cupcake as an outline. The only solid black on any page is the small pupil inside an eye.

For the youngest colourists

The five easy pages have very thick outlines and big open shapes — the smiling cupcake fills the sheet with only a dozen shapes in it. The nine middle pages have a scene or an activity. The six detailed pages — the mandala, the zentangle cupcake, the cupcake castle, the shop, the doodle page and the Life Is Sweet lettering — are for an adult and an evening.
