Popsicles get nearly half the set

More people look for popsicle coloring pages than for cones, trucks and sundaes combined, and almost every collection treats them as an afterthought. Nothing is printed in colour for you

A lot of ice cream pages arrive with the chocolate sauce already black, or the sprinkles as solid dots — which quietly decides the flavour before a child has picked up a pencil. Here every sprinkle is a little outlined capsule, every drip is a hollow blob, and the melted puddle on the tipped-over cone is an empty shape waiting to be filled. The only solid black on any page is the pupil of an eye.

The five easy pages have thick outlines and large open areas that suit a fat crayon. The nine middle pages — the truck, the beach, the picnic, the parlour, the melting cone — will hold a school-age child for half an hour. The six detailed pages, including the twelve patterned popsicles, the ice cream mandala and the zentangle cone, will take an adult most of an evening.
