Most September collections are autumn produce from end to end — leaves, acorns, pumpkins. Those are here, but so is everything else the month actually contains: the first day of school, a bus full of friends, Grandparents Day, Labor Day, and a Rosh Hashanah table with apples, honey and a shofar. If you want a full autumn set instead, the fall coloring pages are the ones to print, and for the month before there are twenty August coloring pages.
Pages you write on as well as colour
Several pages are deliberately left blank in places. The calendar has an empty grid, so the dates get written in by hand and it works in any year. The classroom chalkboard is an empty panel to draw on. The school sign, the backpack name tag, the bunting flags and every book cover are blank too. A page a child finishes themselves is worth more than one that arrives already decided.

Nothing is filled in black
Squirrels, hedgehogs and moles are all dark animals, and most printable pages copy that — which quietly removes the parts a child would most enjoy colouring. Here every animal is drawn as hollow outlines: a squirrel's tail is rows of fur scallops, a hedgehog's spines are separate teardrops, a mushroom's spots are rings. The only solid black on any page is the pupil of an eye.
Easy through to detailed
The five easy pages have thick outlines and large open areas for a crayon and a four-year-old. The nine middle pages will hold a school-age child for half an hour. The six detailed pages — the mandala, the cornucopia, the sunflower field, the woodland path and the botanical hand-lettering — will take an adult most of an evening.
