A March calendar you fill in yourself

The calendar page is deliberately blank. The grid, the weekday initials and the word March are all outlines, and the date boxes are left empty — so a child writes the numbers in, colours the header and ends up with a calendar that is theirs. It works in any year, which a pre-printed one does not.

Clovers, gold and a parade

Seven pages cover St Patrick's Day: a giant four-leaf clover with a ladybird on it, a leprechaun beside an overflowing pot, animals sliding down a rainbow between a pot and a hat, a marching parade with a drum and a fiddle, nine zentangle clovers, a Celtic knot woven round a shamrock, and a good-luck doodle page of thirty horseshoes, hats and coins. The holiday has twenty St Patrick’s Day coloring pages of its own, and the clovers another twenty in the four leaf clover coloring pages.

The March winds

March is the windy month and most collections skip it. Two pages here are about the wind: three animals flying kites on a hilltop with a hat blowing away, and one enormous diamond kite with a nine-bow tail. Two more cover the rain — puddle jumping in boots, and a rainbow breaking through.

Nothing is printed dark for you

A pot of gold is usually printed as a solid black pot, and a ladybird's spots as black dots — both of which remove the parts a child would most enjoy. Here the pot is a hollow outline with separate outlined coins inside it, and every spot, mushroom cap and rainbow band is an empty shape. The only solid black in the set is the pupil of an eye.

Easy through to detailed

The easy pages have thick outlines and large open areas for a crayon. The middle pages will hold a school-age child for half an hour. The detailed pages — the Celtic knot, the March mandala, nine patterned clovers, the spring bouquet and the hand-lettering — will take an adult most of an evening.
