The problem with a snowman set is that a snowman is three circles, and most collections draw those three circles twenty times with a different hat. These pages give him something to do instead: he skates, he pulls a sledge, he shares a mug of cocoa on a bench, he keeps watch at night with a lantern and an owl asleep on his hat, and in one of them a rabbit runs off with his carrot while he throws up his twig arms.
Pages you finish yourself
The build-your-own page is a completely blank snowman — no face, no buttons, no hat — with a column of parts beside him: two hats, a carrot, a scarf, mittens, buttons, twig arms, earmuffs and a holly sprig. The child decides what he looks like. The template sheet is six plain snowman outlines in different shapes, drawn with one clean line so they can be coloured and cut out for a garland, a card or a tracing shape.
Nothing is filled in black
A snowman is the hardest test of this, because his eyes, buttons and mouth are coal — and most printable pages draw them as solid black dots. Every one of them here is a hollow outlined circle, so they are rings to colour rather than holes punched in the page. The hats are outlined, not black. The twig arms are outlined branches rather than thick strokes. The only solid black anywhere is the small pupil inside each eye.
For the youngest colourists
The five easy pages have very thick outlines and big open areas — the close-up face fills the whole sheet with about a dozen shapes in it, which is roughly right for a three-year-old and a fat crayon. The nine middle pages have scenes to work through. The six detailed pages — the mandala, the nine patterned snowmen, the village, the wreath, the snowy forest and the Let It Snow lettering — are for an adult and an evening.
