Most colouring pages leave every choice open. A rainbow does the opposite โ the order is fixed, and that turns out to be the point. For a very young child it is a first lesson in sequence: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet, in that order, every time. Several of these pages have exactly seven bands so the sequence comes out right.
Or ignore the order entirely
The mandala, the patterned rainbow and the flower-framed page are drawn for people who would rather not follow the spectrum at all. The patterned rainbow gives every band a different zentangle fill, which works just as well in three colours as in seven.
Colouring a rainbow well
The usual mistake is pressing hard and leaving hard edges between bands. Colour each band lightly first, in the same direction throughout, then go back over it โ the bands stay separate but the whole arch reads as one object. Leave the clouds white or barely tinted; a solid grey cloud flattens everything above it.
