The letter is drawn properly

Every Z on these pages is set from a real typeface and outlined exactly, not sketched. It is three straight strokes — across, down on the diagonal, and across again — and the capital and the lowercase are the same shape at two sizes, which makes the pair easy to learn together.

Twelve things beginning with Z

Zebra, zoo, zip, zucchini, zeppelin, zinnia, zip line, zookeeper, zigzag, zebra crossing, zither and a friendly zombie. Z has fewer words a child knows than almost any other letter, so this set casts a slightly wider net. There is a thirteenth page setting all twelve out in a grid, and a doodle sheet of fifteen small Z things, with a lightning bolt, a stack of pebbles, a camera and a striped fish joining them.

Nothing arrives filled in

A zebra is normally a coat of solid black stripes, a zip two dark metal strips, a zigzag a band of alternating black and white, and a crossing a row of black bars. None of them are here — the zebra's markings are single thin lines with white paper on both sides, every zip tooth is drawn separately, and every band and every bar is left empty for a child to colour.

Which page to start with

The big uppercase Z and the big lowercase z are the simplest — one huge shape each. The bubble letter and the sheet of mixed letters to hunt through come next. The patterned Z, divided into bands of lattice, scallops and rings, will hold an older child or an adult, and so will the zebra and the zinnia.

Frequently asked questions

Are these letter Z coloring pages free?

Yes — every page is a free PDF with no signup, no email and no watermark on the artwork.

Is there an uppercase and a lowercase Z?

Yes — one page for each at full size, a third with the pair together, and both letters printed above every picture page.

What Z words are included?

Zebra, zoo, zip, zucchini, zeppelin, zinnia, zip line, zookeeper, zigzag, zebra crossing, zither and a friendly zombie, plus a grid of all twelve and a doodle sheet that adds a lightning bolt, a stack of pebbles, a camera and a striped fish.

Is the zebra already striped in black?

No. Its markings are drawn as single thin lines with white paper on both sides, so the whole animal is there to colour — and its mane, hooves and tail are open too.

Is the zombie frightening?

No — it is round, smiling and silly, walking a cat, with nothing gruesome about it. It is drawn for young children.

Which page suits the youngest child?

The big uppercase Z: three straight strokes and nothing else on the page. The zigzag sheet is a good second — big simple bands to fill in.

Which page suits an older child?

The patterned Z, the zebra, or the zinnia — five big flowers of a dozen separate petals each.

What paper size are the files?

Every page comes in both US Letter and A4, so it prints properly on either.
