Download PDF A4 PNGThe letter is drawn properly
Every Y on these pages is set from a real typeface and outlined exactly, not sketched. The capital is two arms meeting a stem; the lowercase drops below the line with a tail, and the two are worth learning side by side because that descender is the only thing that separates them.
Twelve things beginning with Y
Yak, yacht, yolk, yarn, yo-yo, yeti, yam, yogurt, yawn, yard, yoga and yurt. Each is drawn large below the letter, so the sound and the shape are learned together. There is a thirteenth page setting all twelve out in a grid, and a doodle sheet of twenty small Y things — with a yucca, a yule log, a yodeller, a duckling, a sprig of yew and a loaf of bread joining them.
Nothing arrives filled in
A yak is normally a huge animal under a long black coat, an egg yolk a solid yellow dome, a yawning kitten a wide dark mouth and a yam a dark purple root. None of them are here — the yak's coat is twenty-five separate hanging locks you could count, the yolk is an open circle, the kitten's mouth is white paper with a tongue drawn in it, and the yam is left blank for whatever colour you like.
Which page to start with
The big uppercase Y and the big lowercase y are the simplest — one huge shape each. The bubble letter and the sheet of mixed letters to hunt through come next. The patterned Y, divided into bands of lattice, scallops and rings, will hold an older child or an adult, and so will the yurt, whose roof and wall are covered in pattern.

Frequently asked questions
Are these letter Y coloring pages free?
Yes — every page is a free PDF with no signup, no email and no watermark on the artwork.
Is there an uppercase and a lowercase Y?
Yes — one page for each at full size, a third with the pair together, and both letters printed above every picture page.
What Y words are included?
Yak, yacht, yolk, yarn, yo-yo, yeti, yam, yogurt, yawn, yard, yoga and yurt, plus a grid of all twelve and a doodle sheet that adds a yucca, a yule log, a yodeller, a duckling, a sprig of yew and a loaf of bread.
What is a yurt?
A round felt tent used across Central Asia. It is drawn here on a grassy plain with horses beside it, and its patterned wall and roof make it one of the better pages in the set for an older child.
Are these tracing or handwriting worksheets?
No. Every page here is drawn to be coloured in — there are no dotted letters to trace and no cutting lines.
Which page suits the youngest child?
The big uppercase Y: one enormous letter with a thick outline and nothing else on the page. The yo-yo page is a good second.
Which page suits an older child?
The patterned Y, the yurt, or the yak — whose long coat is drawn as twenty-five separate locks to work through.
What paper size are the files?
Every page comes in both US Letter and A4, so it prints properly on either.
