Download PDF A4 PNGThe letter is drawn properly
Every R on these pages is set from a real typeface and outlined exactly, not sketched. On a page whose job is to teach a child a letter, the shape has to be the right shape — a stem, a closed bowl at the top and one straight leg kicking out below, with a line thick enough to colour inside.
Twelve things beginning with R
Rabbit, rainbow, robot, rocket, ring, rose, rhino, rain, ruler, rug, radish and raspberry. Each is drawn large below the letter, so the sound and the shape are learned together. There is a thirteenth page setting all twelve out in a grid, and a doodle sheet of twenty small R things — with a rooster, a ribbon, a rake, a racket, a raft, a robin, a rope and a roller skate joining them.
Nothing arrives filled in
A rainbow is normally seven bands of solid colour, raspberries a dark clustered mass, a rhino a solid grey animal and a rocket a bright flame against a black sky. None of them are here — every band of the rainbow is empty white paper, each berry is a dozen separate beads you could count, and the sky behind the rocket is left blank.
Which page to start with
The big uppercase R and the big lowercase r are the simplest — one huge shape each. The bubble letter and the sheet of mixed letters to hunt through come next. The patterned R, divided into bands of lattice, scallops and rings, will hold an older child or an adult, and so will the rug, whose border and field are a pattern from edge to edge.

Frequently asked questions
Are these letter R coloring pages free?
Yes — every page is a free PDF with no signup, no email and no watermark on the artwork.
Is there an uppercase and a lowercase R?
Yes — one page for each at full size, a third with the pair together, and both letters printed above every picture page.
What R words are included?
Rabbit, rainbow, robot, rocket, ring, rose, rhino, rain, ruler, rug, radish and raspberry, plus a grid of all twelve and a doodle sheet that adds a rooster, a ribbon, a rake, a racket, a raft, a robin, a rope and a roller skate.
Is the rainbow already coloured in?
No. It is drawn as seven thin lines making six empty bands, so the colours are the child's to choose — and it is one of the better pages for practising staying inside a line.
Are these tracing or handwriting worksheets?
No. Every page here is drawn to be coloured in — there are no dotted letters to trace and no cutting lines.
Which page suits the youngest child?
The big uppercase R: one enormous letter with a thick outline and nothing else on the page.
Which page suits an older child?
The patterned R, or the rug — its border and field are covered in a repeating pattern with dozens of small shapes to work through.
What paper size are the files?
Every page comes in both US Letter and A4, so it prints properly on either.
