The letter is drawn properly

Every O on these pages is set from a real typeface and outlined exactly, not sketched. It is the easiest letter in the alphabet to draw badly — a hand-drawn O wobbles — and the easiest of all to colour, which makes it a good first page for a very young child.

Twelve things beginning with O

Octopus, owl, orange, ostrich, otter, onion, oven, olive, oak, omelette, orchid and ox. Each is drawn large below the letter, so the sound and the shape are learned together. There is a thirteenth page setting all twelve out in a grid, and a doodle sheet of twenty small O things — with an oar, an oyster, an ornament, overalls, oatmeal and an oil lamp joining them.

Nothing arrives filled in

An octopus is normally drawn with rows of solid dark suckers, an owl with two huge black eyes, an olive as a solid dark fruit and an oven with a black glass door. None of them are here — every sucker is an open ring, the owl's eyes are wide circles with one small pupil each, and the oven door is shut on a tray of buns so there is nothing dark behind the glass.

Which page to start with

The big uppercase O and the big lowercase o are the simplest — one huge ring each. The bubble letter and the sheet of mixed letters to hunt through come next. The patterned O, divided into bands of lattice, scallops and rings, will hold an older child or an adult.

Frequently asked questions

Are these letter O coloring pages free?

Yes — every page is a free PDF with no signup, no email and no watermark on the artwork.

Is there an uppercase and a lowercase O?

Yes — one page for each at full size, a third with the pair together, and both letters printed above every picture page.

What O words are included?

Octopus, owl, orange, ostrich, otter, onion, oven, olive, oak, omelette, orchid and ox, plus a grid of all twelve and a doodle sheet that adds an oar, an oyster, an ornament, overalls, oatmeal and an oil lamp.

Are these tracing or handwriting worksheets?

No. Every page here is drawn to be coloured in — there are no dotted letters to trace and no cutting lines.

Which page suits the youngest child?

The big uppercase O: one enormous ring with a thick outline and nothing else on the page. It is the simplest sheet in the whole alphabet.

Which page suits an older child?

The patterned O, filled with bands of lattice, scallops and rings, or the doodle sheet of twenty small O things.

Are there pages for the other letters?

Yes — there is a set of twenty for every letter of the alphabet.

What paper size are the files?

Every page comes in both US Letter and A4, so it prints properly on either.
