Download PDF A4 PNGThe letter is drawn properly
Every L on these pages is set from a real typeface and outlined exactly, not sketched. This set uses a serif face on purpose: in a plain sans-serif the lowercase l is a bare vertical bar, indistinguishable from a capital I, and a child colouring a rectangle learns nothing. Here it has a top serif and a foot, so it reads as the letter it is.
Twelve things beginning with L
Lion, ladybird, lighthouse, lollipop, leaf, lemon, lamp, ladder, llama, lizard, lamb and lunchbox. Each is drawn large below the letter, so the sound and the shape are learned together. There is a thirteenth page setting all twelve out in a grid, and a doodle sheet of twenty small L things — with a log, a lantern, a lobster, a lily, a lime, a ladle and a padlock joining them.
Nothing arrives filled in
A ladybird is normally a shell of solid black spots with a black head, a lion's mane one dark shaggy mass, a lighthouse a tower of alternating dark bands and a swirl lollipop a set of alternating stripes. None of them are here — the ladybird's seven spots are open rings, the mane is twenty-eight separate locks you could count, and the lollipop is one single line coiling out with white paper on both sides of it.
Which page to start with
The big uppercase L and the big lowercase l are the simplest — one huge shape each. The bubble letter and the sheet of mixed letters to hunt through come next. The patterned L, divided into bands of lattice, scallops and rings, will hold an older child or an adult.
Printing
Print at 100% scale rather than “fit to page”, and match the file to your paper — Letter or A4. The button at the top bundles all twenty into a single download.
Frequently asked questions
Are these letter L coloring pages free?
Yes — every page is a free PDF with no signup, no email and no watermark on the artwork.
Is there an uppercase and a lowercase L?
Yes — one page for each at full size, a third with the pair together, and both letters printed above every picture page.
Why does the lowercase l have little serifs on it?
Because without them it is just a vertical bar, and a child cannot tell it from a capital I. The serif face makes the shape unmistakable.
What L words are included?
Lion, ladybird, lighthouse, lollipop, leaf, lemon, lamp, ladder, llama, lizard, lamb and lunchbox, plus a grid of all twelve and a doodle sheet that adds a log, a lantern, a lobster, a lily, a lime, a ladle and a padlock.
Are these tracing or handwriting worksheets?
No. Every page here is drawn to be coloured in — there are no dotted letters to trace and no cutting lines.
Which page suits the youngest child?
The big uppercase L: one enormous letter with a thick outline and nothing else on the page.
Which page suits an older child?
The patterned L, filled with bands of lattice, scallops and rings, or the doodle sheet of twenty small L things.
What paper size are the files?
Every page comes in both US Letter and A4, so it prints properly on either.
