Most shark colouring pages lead with teeth. Ours do not. The easy pages are openly cute, and the realistic ones are drawn the way a wildlife illustrator would draw them — gill slits, fins and proportion, no blood in the water. A child who is fascinated by sharks and also slightly afraid of them can use this whole set.
Nothing is pre-filled black
Sharks are usually printed as dark silhouettes, which leaves nothing to colour. Every page here is a hollow outline — even the eyes are outlined circles rather than black dots, so they can be any colour at all.
Colouring water
The temptation is to fill the background solid blue. It works better to leave most of the water white and colour only the bubbles, the seaweed and a band of blue near the surface — the eye fills in the rest, and the shark stays the subject.
