Shark Coloring Pages

Not one of them is printed grey

A shark is drawn as a dark grey animal almost everywhere you look, and on a coloring page that means the subject arrives already filled in. Every shark here is an outline: the belly panel, the fins, the gill slits and the markings are all shapes to colour. Even the open mouths are white inside, with the teeth drawn as separate small triangles rather than a row of white notches cut out of a black hole.

Eight real species

Great white, hammerhead, whale shark, tiger shark, thresher, sawshark, nurse shark and the extinct megalodon — each drawn with the feature that identifies it. The thresher's upper tail lobe really is as long as the rest of the animal; the sawshark really does carry sixteen teeth along each edge of its snout. One page stacks six of them in profile so the differences are obvious at a glance.

How big was a megalodon?

One page answers that properly: the megalodon fills the sheet with a modern great white and a scuba diver drawn small beside it, and three of its fossil teeth laid out on the seabed. It is the page most children come back to.

Nothing frightening

Every mouth on the realistic pages is closed, nothing is chasing anything and no page shows an animal being hurt. The cartoon sharks smile.
